MDM Removal

Students who are graduating will receive information about the transition of their device about a month prior to their graduation. Thirty (30) days after your degree has posted, the University will remove mobile device management (MDM) from the device. The Mobile Device Management (MDM) was in place to ensure your device stayed secure and updated for academic purposes.

After the release, the device is owned outright by the graduate. Please note that after we remove the MDM software your device will need to be reset to factory settings to completely remove any remaining references to university ownership, so we encourage you to back up the device regularly to prevent any loss of data.

Mobile Device Management Tentative Schedule for Mass Removal

Fall 2026 Graduates – January 19, 2027

May 2027 Graduates – June 08, 2027

Important Information about MDM Process:

The removal will reset the iPad to its factory settings, and you’ll lose all data on the device. We recommend uploading any files you wish to save to a personal cloud storage solution (iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) as soon as possible. Click here for instructions on how to transfer your files.

  • UK has never– and will never– access any personal data or location information from your device.
  • The MDM removal process will occur if, and only if a student graduates from a bachelor’s degree program.

After the reset is finished, you'll need to set up your iPad as a “new iPad.” Restoring from a backup will automatically reinstall the MDM profile.
