The Smart Campus Initiative is hosting a one week virtual Hackathon for UK students in January 2021.
Student groups (made up of 1- 4 UK students) are invited to develop an app, a game, or an add-on feature to a current UK App. The goal of the project is to solve a challenge with themes defined by fall 2020 first-year students. Ideas and themes the groups will work on range from academic support and success, career discovery, mental/spiritual/physical wellbeing, and building connection and community at UK.
Participants will meet briefly by zoom with the hackathon hosts on Jan 11 and be provided with background, support materials, the challenge, and rules. Teams will have a week to build out the ideas and on January 18, student groups will present their project to a panel of experts from UK and local business partners.
The winners will receive:
- Monetary prizes and/or funding for additional software/hardware for the project.
- Designated space in the new Cornerstone building during the spring semester to finalize and continue building on their projects.
- Mentoring and special opportunities to meet with specialists.
